We were appointed to deliver specialist thermal upgrade works to Hangar 16U as part of the landmark Brabazon development at Filton Airfield, Bristol. The historic hangar — originally constructed to house Hurricane aircraft — required a carefully considered approach to improve internal performance while respecting the scale and legacy of the structure.
Our scope included the installation of Diasen Diathonite Thermactive insulating plaster at 40mm thickness, finished with a top coat of Diasen Argatherm to provide a breathable, durable internal surface. The Thermactive system, a lime and cork-based insulating plaster, was selected for its ability to enhance thermal performance while maintaining vapour permeability — an important factor within large solid-wall and heritage-style structures.
Applied strictly in accordance with specification, the system delivered improved thermal efficiency and internal comfort, while providing a robust finish ready to receive subsequent trades.
This project highlights our capability in delivering performance-led, breathable insulation systems within historically significant and technically demanding environments.
