Old Magistrates' Court

Bristol Civic Heritage Restoration

Project Overview

We were appointed to deliver the drylining, MF ceiling, fire ceiling and external wall thermal upgrade works at the Old Magistrates' Court in Bristol, a historic civic building originally constructed in 1879.

Our scope included the installation of all internal drylining systems, MF ceilings and fire-rated ceiling constructions, ensuring full compliance with current performance and safety standards while working within a sensitive heritage environment.

As part of the external wall thermal upgrade strategy, we installed 60mm of Adaptavate Thermal lime plaster, finished with a 4mm Adaptavate Universal lime top coat. This breathable, high-performance system was specified to improve thermal efficiency while maintaining vapour permeability, supporting the long-term integrity of the original solid wall construction.

Working within the constraints of a historic building required careful sequencing, coordination and attention to detail to safeguard existing architectural features. All works were carried out in accordance with project specifications, delivering modern performance standards while preserving the building's historic character.

Scope of Works

British Gypsum MF ceilings and metal stud partitions; British Gypsum plasters; Thermal Adaptavate lime plasters.
